Cycling Tour Overview
1 Roo: I’m relatively fit and comfortable on the bike and happiest on mild gradients or the flat.
2 Roo’s: Fitness and health is my life. I ride regularly on a weekly basis with friends and on weekends I’m not daunted by rides of up to 5 hours for a few days back to back.
3 Roo’s: Riding is my life! I’m not interested in racing, I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I love the challenge and the idea of where my legs and bike can take me. My friends and I are always looking for the next cycling adventure. Want to know more about the VéloRoo Roo levels?

Day 1: Welcome to the Granite Belt
approx 10km Ride
Your gravel bike tour starts when we collect you from Brisbane at approx 10am and head inland (collection also available from Toowoomba) We have a mid transit lunch stop in a little cafe in Warwick’s historic main street full of country charm.
After settling in to your Ridgemill Estate luxury cabin, set amongst the vineyards, we take an introductory ride through the surrounding countryside, with a bit of up a bit of down a bit of tarmac a bit of gravel and lots of scenery, to fine tune your bike set up.
Continue to get to know your fellow VeloRoovians over a glass of local wine as you watch the sunset over the vineyard before heading to town for dinner. What a start!
Included meals : lunch
Day 2 : Ballandean
approx 35km ride
After breakfast, step off your balcony and onto your bike as we head on todays adventure. We ride to Ballandean via quiet eucalypt lined backroads, past open fields and sprawling vineyards.
Ballandean has a rich wine history dating back to the 1930’s, so of course is a must do on our tour. Our destination is our lunch stop – The Barrelroom at Ballandean Estate, a 5th generation wine making family and Queensland’s oldest operating winery, for a gourmet grazing platter and of course some wine tasting, surrounded by 160 year old barrels. Soak up the atmosphere!
Some time to chill back at your luxury cabin in the afternoon before we take a Grape to Glass Master Class complete with a vineyard tour and wine tastings, right on your doorstep at Ridgemill Estate. And to round out the day – a good ol’ country pub dinner.
Included meals : breakfast / lunch
Day 3: The Big Day
approx 70km Ride
We love the variety of this ride. With a 50/50 mix of lightly trafficked bitumen, quiet gravel back roads, timbered grazing country, agricultural patchwork, impressive Granite boulders and the charming main street of Stanthorpe, you’ll feel a million miles away from city life.
It’s 70km of “Smiles per hour”. We stop for a picnic lunch enroute under the inquisitive gaze of the local cows. Relax and enjoy the ride knowing that vehicle support is with you all the way.
Back at your cabins by mid afternoon you’ll feel the satisfaction of a great days ride.
Kick back and watch the sunset over the vines with a glass of local wine, local cheese and gourmet pizzas for dinner. Appreciate the stunning night sky in all its twinkling glory. What a way to end the day!
Included meals : breakfast / lunch / dinner
Day 4: Where Bushrangers Roamed
approx 40km Ride
After breakfast, we pack up and take a short drive to the start of our final ride. Today we are heading into bushranger country. We ride through acres of the famous Stanthorpe apples and past more iconic granite boulders. We stop for a short excursion to walk between, around and over Donnelly’s Castle, an impressive granite formation and the hideout for “Captain Thunderbolt”. Also a great lookout!
The last part of our gravel ride takes us alongside the Qld Rabbit Proof fence, over a 100 years old and still in service today.
Our ride will loop us back to our final gourmet food and wine indulgence, lunch at Heritage Estate Winery. We will have you back in Brisbane by approx 5pm
Included meals : breakfast / lunch
To make this a true holiday experience we have chosen to stay in luxury cabins at Ridgemill Estate nestled amongst the vines on a stunning 40 acre working property in the heart of the famous Granite Belt wine region.
As one of only a select number of guests, awake to your own private view of the sun rising over the estate’s vineyard. Not only will you be able to sample so many of the local wines but we will also dine on delicious local produce.
What sort of cycling experience do I need?
VéloRoo Adventures are not about setting the fastest time, but having the best time!
Smiles per hour is what we chase 🙂
If you are comfortable and have some experience riding in a group, you’ll be fine. Our adventure peloton sizes generally range from around 6 – 13 people.
If you’re not sure about your level, just give us call and Steve can have a chat to you and even organise a local Brisbane ride together before hand. You need to be comfortable riding 50 – 70 km in a day.
There’s no mountain biking rocks and jumps, but by their nature, unpaved roads can offer soft or loose gravelly sections or areas that may have some slight erosion after seasonal weather.
What sort of bike do I need?
Gravel or mountain bike – and if you don’t have one, get in touch and we can arrange hire. There is also the option to upgrade to an e-mountain bike.
