Sunshine Coast Hinterland Weekend Getaway Cycling Tour

An example of a 3 day weekend getaway. Our rides are modular so we can easily add more days.

1: G'day Coolum, Hello Noosa

Day 1Friday
70km Distance ride
533m Accumulated elevation

Ready, steady, go! This VéloRoo Cycling Getaway is off to a flying start: whether we collect you from Sunshine Coast Airport or meet you at the Coolum accommodation, you will be getting yourself into your cycling kit and your bike road-ready by lunchtime. After a quick lunch, Steve and Julia will whisk you away on your first exploratory ride of Queensland’s best-kept cycling secret.

The Classique Tour:

Soaking up the deeply chillaxed mood of Australian holiday makers in paradise – that’s what this leg is all about. But don’t worry, we won’t get so relaxed that we forget to challenge you with the day’s route; after all, even a flat day in this region is bound to be pretty bumpy. Today’s cycle, a round trip from our base in Coolum to the luxurious vacation mecca that is Noosa and back again, which makes for an unforgettable afternoon of cycling.

The Classique is the sort of ride our French friends would refer to as bonne pour les yeux – good for the eyes – meaning that although you might feel the burn, the beautiful scenery will inspire you to pull through.

Along the way, we have a couple of sneaky detours planned to make sure you get only the very best views and impressions; by the time we roll back home along the coast all your senses will be well and truly sated. What a way to start your getaway!

  • Breathtaking ocean views as we depart in the morning
  • Gyndier Drive – car-free and yours for the taking
  • Cruising along Hastings Street, a Noosa icon

Included meals: lunch

2: More QLD than a Maroon Pineapple!

Day 2Saturday
65km Distance ride
1150m Accumulated elevation

The Rustic Tour :

This route is designed to show off some local roads with distinctive character – some might even call them character building. VéloRoo invites you to get into the spirit of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland as we take you through some of the most charming and lesser-known nooks and crannies of the region.

Our morning climb – starting at Woombye, home of The Big Pineapple – is strangely reminiscent of our favourite local French climbs. It has a homely sort of vibe to it and the Australian bushland provides a pleasant shady cover as we work our way upwards. The roads we’ve selected for your cycling pleasure seem as though they’ve simply been slapped down amongst the glorious surroundings; they truly are diamonds in the rough, making for a unique riding experience to say the least.

Once we reach the top of the range the going gets decidedly lumpy – but the views are nothing short of sublime. Julia and Steve have put together a range of little distractions and detours as we explore the heights of the range, making sure you get to appreciate the scenery to its full potential before we start our descent.

Let us assure you, you are in for a great, great descent, blending sweeping hairpins with long, fast straights that will make you want to hoot with that special kind of glee that comes with a well-earned downhill; and all of it on roads that are bordered by wild, natural beauty all along the long, long, long way down. This tour really gives local flavour at its finest and features truly epic scenery.

  • Riding the ridgeline with sublime 360-degree views
  • The meandering valley roads
  • Mountain top vistas
  • The aromas as we ride through plantations and farmlands

Included meals: lunch

3: If I could turn back time ...

Day 3Sunday
80km Distance ride
729m Accumulated elevation

The Time Travellers :

Today’s stage is a classic voyage of discovery as we cycle our way through history via picturesque roads winding through small mountainside farms. Our chosen route feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the busy seaside towns.

This round trip, starting at our home base in Coolum, will take you right into some of the most ancient landscapes of the area. Skirting volcanic plugs, working our way up sneaky gradients that will reward you with stunning views; there are some truly ancient treasures in store.

However, this supported ride not only highlights the Sunshine Coast’s natural history, it also gives you a glimpse of some of the oldest farm and timber establishments of the region – including sprawling cane fields and pineapple farms – if you want to buy a pineapple, today’s your day!

To break it all up, we allow for a leisurely coffee stop in Yandina, a beautiful little local secret nestled on the bank of the South Maroochy River. Our favourite little café serves a rich brew made from their signature in-house roast; the perfect pick-me-up before we roll back into Coolum, full of the joy of cycling.

  • Striking, ancient landscapes
  • Cycling through some of the Hinterlands oldest settlements
  • Technical descents
  • The emerging coastline as we return to Coolum

Included meals: lunch

4: See you later, alligator ...

Australian Sunshine Coast Hinterland Cycling Tour

A word from our clients

Don’t take our word for it - discover why our cycling adventurists have fallen in love with the Occitanie Region of Southern France and the VeloRoo way.

How does gourmet food, French wine and cycling through some amazingly beautiful French countryside sound for a holiday?
Well if you are looking for an authentic French cycling trip, Trish and I have just finished our third cycling adventure in the south of France with VéloRoo and what a fantastic trip it was. Easy access to the region by train from Barcelona or Paris and from there, Julia and Steve look after everything including; pick up from Beziers train station, all your food, your bike, cycling kit, sensational cycling and outstanding accommodation.
This area of France also provides easy access to other French regions including Provence, Bordeaux and the French Riviera as well as the Ligurian coast of Italy and Barcelona and the Costa Brava in Spain.
Our three trips with VéloRoo include a ten day “Tour de France” adventure, a week of cycling in the Languedoc around St Genies de Fontedit and six days riding all the iconic Pyrenees mountain climbs that you watch every year when the “Tour” is being televised on SBS.
But if you don’t feel the urge to ride hills or your partner is a non-rider, do not concern yourself. Steve, who is a qualified Australian cycling coach, caters to all levels of fitness and Julia organises everything else down to the last detail including; local site seeing, local wine tasting, visiting local village markets and even a water colour painting class if that’s what you would like.
We have stayed in the area for additional days both before and after our cycling trips and with Julia and Steve’s local knowledge we hired a car for about fifty dollars a day and easily drove around the area soaking up amazing scenery, eating in quality restaurants and visiting historic towns like Montpellier and Avignon.
VéloRoo’s local knowledge make each day unforgettable and these guys are passionate about making sure you have the most authentic experience you can manage, both on and off the bike.
Trish and I have travelled to nearly 50 countries now and have experienced many different standards on our travels. I can honestly say, that the three trips we have done with VéloRoo have been three of our best.
Took Pyrénées Iconic Climbs Challenge in October 2018
For us, the tour was a perfect balance of challenging cycling in spectacular scenery and enjoying the local sights, delicious food and wine. Steve and Julia went 'above-and -beyond' to tailor the tour to the needs and interests of our group which included spending an extra day before the tour to ride around their home village of St Genies de Fontedit. Steve was a friendly, hospitable and enthusiastic cycling guide and Julia was superbly reliable and organised - always in the right place at the right time in the support van with refreshments, extra jackets (or a lift home).
We would highly recommend VeloRoo for a cycling holiday!Took Pyrénées Iconic Climbs Challenge in June 2017
