2: The Sunshine Coast Classique

Day 2Sunday
110km Distance ride
1070m Accumulated elevation

This morning’s breakfast is taken at one of the local Sunshine Coast cafes to get you fuelled for your first ride.

Today is all about soaking up the chillaxed mood of Australian holiday makers in paradise. But don’t worry, we won’t get so relaxed that we forget to challenge you with the day’s route; after all, even a flat day in this region is bound to be pretty bumpy.

Today’s ride, a round trip from our base in Coolum through the luxurious vacation mecca of Noosa and on into the picturesque Noosa Hinterland, is the longest day ride you’ll experience on this cycling tour. A dubious honour, perhaps, but it certainly makes for an unforgettable day of cycling.

The Classique is the sort of ride our French friends would refer to as bonne pour les yeux – good for the eyes – meaning although you might feel the burn, the beautiful scenery will inspire you to pull through.

Along the way, we take a couple of sneaky detours to make sure you get the very best views and impressions; by the time we ride back home along the coast, all your senses will be well and truly sated.

Highlights:
  • Breathtaking Sunshine Coast ocean views as we depart in the morning,
  • Gyndier Drive – car-free cyclist’s paradise, yours for the taking,
  • Cruising along Hastings Street – a Noosa icon,
  • Cycling through historic Australian towns – including the time-bending main street of historic Cooroy.
Your Afternoon:

We ride back to your accommodation, get freshened up and head out for a delicious lunch as we take you behind the scenes of breweries in the Noosa and surrounding Sunny Coast regions. Sit back and relax as our knowledgeable tour guide takes you on a craft beer journey. What a way to start the week!

Included meals: breakfast, lunch

3: Pinchy-Punchy Climby Madness

Day 3Monday
60km Distance ride
1150m Accumulated elevation

On this leg we ride into the hilly heart of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, showcasing exactly why the Sunshine Coast is set to be one of Australia’s most sought after cycle tour destinations, and will leave you pumped to be among the privileged few to ride these roads before they’re famous.

This region, most commonly known for its dairy farms and vivid natural beauty provides a variety of cycling hill climbs that are simply staggering. This tour offers everything a cyclist loves, from challenging gradients to breath-taking views.

Today’s route will keep you engaged with fresh riding challenges at every turn and ever-changing scenery nothing short of spectacular. As we cycle on, bushland gives way to rainforest before revealing a lush sprawl of farmland and views that will provide the backdrop for your heroic victory photos atop each conquered climb.

This is a gorgeous ride that will leave you feeling like a true cycling champion. It’s a day of challenges, starting with some sharp ascents and finishing off long and draggy…without ever reaching ‘frightening’ status.

Highlights:
  • A bracing pre-ride coffee at our favourite Eudlo café,
  • Stunning Sunshine Coast ocean views,
  • The secluded roads of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Your Afternoon:

We’ll head back to Coolum Beach for a well-deserved lunch at one of the local cafes. You then have the afternoon to relax and take a walk on the beach. Dinner at your leisure.

Included meals: lunch

4: 27 million years in the making

Day 4Tuesday
87km Distance ride
1275m Accumulated elevation

Today, your VéloRoo cycling stage will take you right into the wild and untamed heart of the Sunshine Coast to discover some of its breathtaking hidden secrets. This is a relatively hilly stage with a flat finish, full of Sunshine Coast charm. Heading out from Landsborough, we cycle for the hills until we hit the stunning Blackall Ranges.

Macadamia and pineapple plantations, as well as custard apple farms, line the route towards the Blackall Ranges, one of the best kept secrets when it comes to cycling highlights in the South-East Queensland. At VéloRoo we like to take the road-less-travelled and this quiet, rambling route is one of our all-time riding favourites, especially the broad panoramic views of the Glasshouse Mountains, translucent and mysterious in the winter sun.

Everything about this ride is picturesque, from the tiny villages dotting the countryside, the roadside fruit stalls with their honesty boxes, even the odd 10% climb this route throws our way is simply too gorgeous to be a serious struggle.

And the descents – you will be giggling like a bunch of school children on excursion!

Highlights:
  • The Glasshouse Mountain views,
  • Spectacular Sunny coast scenery,
  • The call of the whip birds,
  • Wide open skies and plenty of sunshine,
  • The descents.

Lunch will be enjoyed out on the ride before returning back home.

Your Afternoon:

Enjoy a couple of hours relaxing before being picked up and taken to dinner in a nearby town. Tonight is a touch of France – this delicious French dinner will have you savouring every mouthful – délicieux!

Included meals: lunch, dinner

5: Day Off

Day 5Wednesday

Today is rest day for your legs, yours to spend as you wish roaming what the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Go on one of the many local tours or just relax on the beach. We can help you with suggestions on activities. And an additional ride is also not out of the question!

6: The Heritage Tour

Day 6Thursday
80km Distance ride
729m Accumulated elevation

Today’s riding stage is a classic voyage of discovery as we cycle through history along picturesque roads winding through small mountainside farms. Our chosen route feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the busy seaside towns.

This round trip, starting at our home base in Coolum, will take you into some of the most ancient landscapes of the area. Skirting volcanic plugs, riding our way up the sneaky gradients that will reward you with stunning views; there are some truly ancient treasures in store.

Today’s supported ride highlights the Sunshine Coast’s natural history and gives you a glimpse of some of the oldest farm and timber establishments of the region – including sprawling cane fields and pineapple farms. If you want to buy a pineapple, today’s your day!

To break it up, we take a leisurely coffee stop in Yandina, a beautiful little local secret nestled on the bank of the South Maroochy River. Our favourite little café serves a rich brew made from their signature in-house roast – the perfect pick-me-up before we roll back into Coolum, full of the joy of cycling.

Highlights:
  • Striking, ancient Australian landscapes,
  • Cycling through some of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland’s oldest settlements,
  • Technical cycling descents,
  • The emerging Sunshine Coast coastline as we return to Coolum.
Your Afternoon:

We will have you back at Coolum by lunchtime for you to do as you wish; take an afternoon of downtime before heading to dinner at the local Italian restaurant, bellisimo!

Included meals: dinner

7: More Qld than a maroon pineapple!

Day 7Friday
65km Distance ride
1150m Accumulated elevation

VéloRoo invites you to get into the spirit of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland as we take you through some of the most charming and lesser-known nooks and crannies of the region. Today’s cycling route shows off local roads with distinctive character – some might even call them character building

Our morning hill climb – starting at Woombye, home of The Big Pineapple – is strangely reminiscent of our favourite local French climbs. It has a homely vibe and the Australian bushland provides a pleasant shady cover as we work our way upwards. The roads we’ve selected for your cycling pleasure seem as though they’ve been slapped down amongst the glorious surroundings; they truly are diamonds in the rough, making for a unique riding experience.

Once we reach the top of the range, the going gets decidedly lumpy – but the views are sublime. Julia and Steve have put together a range of distractions and detours as we explore the heights, making sure you experience the scenery to its fullest before we start our descent.

You are in for a great, great descent, blending sweeping hairpins with long, fast straights that will make you want to hoot with that special kind of glee that comes with a well-earned downhill ride, all of it on roads bordered by wild, natural beauty for the long, long, long way down. This cycling tour gives local flavour at its finest and features truly epic scenery.

Highlights:
  • Riding the Sunshine Coast Hinterland ridge line with sublime 360-degree views,
  • The meandering valley roads,
  • Mountain top vistas,
  • The aromas as we ride through plantations and farmlands.

We will have lunch out on our ride.

Your Afternoon:

This afternoon we have a real treat for you – cruise on a restored 100 year old sailboat!

Take a step back in time to experience the life of the traditional land owners who have lived off these bountiful coastal waters for thousands of years. Immerse yourself in the dreamtime legends, ancient traditions, beliefs, stories and lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast’s first eco-custodians, the Saltwater People.

Connect with these ancient people through storytelling, didgeridoo and entertainment provided by your Indigenous guide as you cruise to sites of cultural significance, hunting & gathering spots and locations where dreamtime stories and songs originated. Enjoy the afternoon sun and grazing on delicious bush-tucker-inspired foods.

What a way to round off your epic week of cycling and cultural experiences!

Included meals: lunch, dinner

A word from our clients

Don’t take our word for it - here's some comments from happy VeloRoovians

How does gourmet food, French wine and cycling through some amazingly beautiful French countryside sound for a holiday?
Well if you are looking for an authentic French cycling trip, Trish and I have just finished our third cycling adventure in the south of France with VéloRoo and what a fantastic trip it was. Easy access to the region by train from Barcelona or Paris and from there, Julia and Steve look after everything including; pick up from Beziers train station, all your food, your bike, cycling kit, sensational cycling and outstanding accommodation.
This area of France also provides easy access to other French regions including Provence, Bordeaux and the French Riviera as well as the Ligurian coast of Italy and Barcelona and the Costa Brava in Spain.
Our three trips with VéloRoo include a ten day “Tour de France” adventure, a week of cycling in the Languedoc around St Genies de Fontedit and six days riding all the iconic Pyrenees mountain climbs that you watch every year when the “Tour” is being televised on SBS.
But if you don’t feel the urge to ride hills or your partner is a non-rider, do not concern yourself. Steve, who is a qualified Australian cycling coach, caters to all levels of fitness and Julia organises everything else down to the last detail including; local site seeing, local wine tasting, visiting local village markets and even a water colour painting class if that’s what you would like.
We have stayed in the area for additional days both before and after our cycling trips and with Julia and Steve’s local knowledge we hired a car for about fifty dollars a day and easily drove around the area soaking up amazing scenery, eating in quality restaurants and visiting historic towns like Montpellier and Avignon.
VéloRoo’s local knowledge make each day unforgettable and these guys are passionate about making sure you have the most authentic experience you can manage, both on and off the bike.
Trish and I have travelled to nearly 50 countries now and have experienced many different standards on our travels. I can honestly say, that the three trips we have done with VéloRoo have been three of our best.
