Some Nostaglia – 1962 Tour de France

by

Cycling in france has so much history. Having spent the day planning our tour group for the 100th running of the Tour de France in 2013 I came across this short film on the 1962 Tour de France. It’s an amazing insight into the conditions 50 years ago. I still think it’s strange to watch them ride without helmets.

There is even talk of doping which was referred to as “the charge”. Unfortunately the drugs they used were not so much performance enhancing as pain suppressing. This meant that many men pushed themselves beyond their physical limits.

Back then they also use to raid cafes to get Champagne & beer to help them with their thirst on a hot summers day!

A word from our clients

Don’t take our word for it - discover why our cycling adventurists have fallen in love with the Occitanie Region of Southern France and the VeloRoo way.

Great time, great bikes, great weather. Avoided the worry of bikes on a plane and had excellent bikes. The caad 12 canondales are really fun and comfortable to ride. All delivered to our door. Thanks for the excellent service. The area is a wonderful place to ride - with such different yet spectacular routes depending on which way you head out. Would highly recommend to anyone - especially the lunch stops!Took Bike Hire in France in May 2017
I'm saying yes to VeloRoo taking my bike to TDU next year please!!! I saw about 20 bikes not make my flight yesterday evening leaving Adelaide... they all went back to the terminal too. Thanks again!Took Santos Tour Down Under in 2018
