1 Roo: I’m relatively fit and comfortable on the bike and happiest on mild gradients or the flat.

2 Roo’s: Fitness and health is my life. I ride regularly on a weekly basis with friends and on weekends I’m not daunted by rides of up to 5 hours for a few days back to back.

3 Roo’s: Riding is my life! I’m not interested in racing, I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I love the challenge and the idea of where my legs and bike can take me. My friends and I are always looking for the next cycling adventure. Want to know more about the VéloRoo Roo levels?

    • Ride Esk to Fernvale 44km

      • 6am meet up in Brisbane / Newstead area (TBA) – leave by 6:30am
      • Brisbane to Esk shuttle 1hr 20 min
      • approx 8am Ride Esk to Fernvale 44km (allow 3-4hrs)
      • Depart Fernvale 1pm (or earlier if the group is ready) return shuttle 50 min.
      • Return to Brisbane by approx 2pm

This is a good introduction if you haven’t done a lot of gravel riding, it’ll be the easiest part of the BVRT. Some initial parts requires a bit of skill (i.e. crossing a gully) – but that’s part of the fun! and the closer you get to Fernvale the more developed the trail is with sealed paths and bridges.. This route will take us through picturesque countryside and spots such as Black Snake Gully Railway Bridge, Sandy Creek Railway Bridge and Cooragook Railway Bridge – with a mix of riding through the bridge piles or alongside and all great photo opportunities. From Esk, it’s 24km to Coominya. After checking out the old train station, we are back on the trail and get to cross the heritage-listed Lockyer Creek railway bridge. The remaining ride to Fernvale is a fantastic mix of gravel and bitumen (less technical and mostly flat) surrounded by amazing views. Once you reach our Fernvale destination you can grab some well deserved food and a refreshing drink. Then we all jump back in the VeloRoo van for the trip back to Brisbane.

    • Ride Moore to Esk 45km

      • Return to Brisbane by approx 3pm

Heading off from Moore we have plenty of bridges and creek crossings along the route as well as the historic Yimbun Tunnel, built between 1909 and 1910 and considered a hidden treasure of the BVRT. Today is packed with exciting sights and experiences. And don’t forget to take a break and refuel with a delicious lunch at the finish town of Esk, where you’ll find plenty of choices. You’ll also have the chance to make new friends and bond with other adventure-seekers along the way.

    • Ride Yarraman to Moore 48km

      • 5:45am meet up in Brisbane / Newstead area (TBA) – leave by 6:15am
      • Brisbane to Yarraman shuttle 1hr 45 min
      • approx 9am Ride Yarraman to Moore 49km (allow 3-4hrs)
      • Depart Moore 2pm (or earlier if the group is ready) return shuttle 1hr 45min.
      • Return to Brisbane by approx 4pm

Today’s leg starts in the town of Yarraman and takes you on a journey through rough gravel surfaces and rocky sections with several creek crossings that are moderately steep and challenging. After 19km, you’ll reach Blackbutt, a good spot for a snack. Then, it’s just another 5km to Benarkin, where you’ll come across the Fettlers Rest, an art project commissioned on the trail that displays the ‘dogs’ that represent long dead fettlers returning out of the ground to work again with their ‘Inca god’ style boss ganger. At the 41km mark, you’ll reach Linville, a good spot for a pub lunch and to see the Linville Station Precinct, one of the more outstanding railway stations on the BVRT. The station area opened in 1910 and still has several unique train carriages that stand today on the old railway tracks. Finally, after 7km, you’ll reach Moore, your finish point for the ride.
