Cycling Adventure in the Aussie Countryside
I’m relatively fit and comfortable on the bike and happiest on mild gradients or the flat.
I regularly ride for fitness, dry days I ride to work, and weekend fun with friends. I enjoy an active healthy lifestyle and occasional physical challenges.
Fitness and health is my life. I ride regularly on a weekly basis with mates and am comfortable with rides of around 4 hours at a relatively strong pace.
I ride on average 250 + k’s a week and enjoy a 100k rides on the weekends. I love to train, improve, and sometimes challenge amongst my friends.
Riding is my life! I’m not interested in racing, I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I love the challenge and the idea of where my legs and bike can take me. My friends and I are always looking for the next cycling adventure.
If you’re looking for a change from your “been there, done that” Australian cycling holiday destination, come with us to discover Australia’s best kept secret in Queensland’s south-east corner, the South Burnett region.
It’s so much more than just the Rail Trail!
Set in the foothills of the ancient Bunya mountains with warm summers, mild winters and rich volcanic soil, the South Burnett region is the perfect place for a back country cycling adventure through vineyards, farmland and a hinterland that begs for discovery.
For the last few years the South Burnett region has grown in popularity because of its traditional dairy, peanut and agricultural industries and now boasts some wonderful wineries due to its enviable mediterranean-style climate. Located on the top of the Great Dividing Range in Queensland, the undulating hills, small country towns, patchwork farmland and eucalyptus forests make for an incredible gravel riding adventure.
All this, just 3 hrs from Brisbane.
What sort of cycling experience do I need?
VéloRoo Adventures are not about setting the fastest time, but having the best time!
If you are comfortable and have some experience riding in a group, you’ll be fine. Our adventure peloton sizes are capped at around a dozen people.
You need to be comfortable riding at least 50 kilometers in a day. The South Burnett is not mountainous, rather undulating. Each day there will be a couple of solid short pinches up to a couple of hundred meters in length. Panoramic view points are rarely at the bottom of a hill climb!
The South Burnett offers a wonderful range of riding surfaces from good country road tarmac to smooth dirt roads and rail trails.
Don’t think mountain biking rocks and jumps, but by their nature, unpaved roads can offer soft or loose gravelly sections or areas that may have some slight erosion after seasonal weather.
What sort of bike do I need?
You will need something that can handle dirt and gravel roads: a Gravel Bike, Mountain Bike or Electric Mountain Bike. Give us a call to discuss the suitability of your bike if you are unsure.
