Can you share your top holiday experiences you had on your holiday with your VeloRoo bike?

Jim , UK, June 2013 – Cycling to Pezenas market on the Saturday morning; listening to the birds and the breeze and otherwise silence.

Andrew , UK, May 2013 – Top of the climb on D15 up from Neffiès, looking back down the road switchbacking to the town, then descending down switchbacks to the D124 in the early morning sunshine.
Cycling through the vineyards on any of rides, especially coming down the D124 into Fontès, Caux and Roujan;
Dropping down onto wooded road D13E8 into Faugères, following a hard climb up the D909 and D146E7, and then watching a buzzard fly from the trees above me as I cycled and following it downhill as it glided down along  the road;
Cycling down from Montesquieu into Gabian on the last day switching back on the hills, then being joined by another cyclist and chatting and cycling down into Gabian in the afternoon sunshine.

All of these routes were beautifully quiet, quite unlike cycling in the UK. Clear open roads, largely with a great surface, and few cars.

David , UK, May 2013 –    The lack of traffic and quality of roads compared to the UK.

Did you discover a new favourite cheese, wine or other tasty treat?

Huw, UK, June 2013  – Discovered a new wine! Cycled out to the start of the Minervois appellation to Domaine Barrubio between Assignan and St Jean de Minvervois. Fantastic sweet wine but also great rose!

Jim , UK, June 2013 – The pizza at the bar in Autignac is amazing. The thinnest crust ever!

Andrew , UK, May 2013 – Tasty treats. Wine naturally (Faugères red and also rosé on the hot days), great bread (a baguette spread thickly with butter and jam after a long ride with a cup of coffee, or a tresse, a plaited brioche with a sugar topping dipped into coffee and eaten for breakfast), or a religieuse (a cake made of two choux buns filled with a coffee crème pâtissière, covered in coffee ganache).

Favourite places –

Andrew , UK, May 2013 – Vailhan and Barrage des Olivettes – the Barrage is a damn with a beautiful reservoir to cycle round. Vailhan is a village at the head of the reservoir sitting on by a rocky outcrop with a beautiful church looking out out over the  water.
Pezenes-les-Mines – a picture postcard village in the hills north of Fos, with a beautiful stream running by the road that winds through it.

Gabian – where we stayed. A beautiful village sitting on the River Thongue, with a lovely little square with a boulangerie and grocery. Follow the road out to Montesquieu and stop on the bridge to look at the old village walls, and  spot the wild coypu (large South American animals like beavers, I kid you not!) swimming below.

Favourite road:

Andrew , UK, May 2013 – So many to choose from. D13 barrelling down from Faugères to Gabian, the tree-lined D15 running from Roujan to Neffiès, both silky smooth. But both beaten by the D125E1 around to Vailhan and the Barrage des Olivettes – a little rough surface in places but after the climbs a great view over the reservoir and so quiet and idyllic.Was this your first cycling holiday experience?     Would you do another cycling holiday?

Andrew , UK, May 2013 – I’ve cycled on holiday before, but this was the most cycling I’ve done on holiday, on the best bike and I’d certainly do it again.

Would you happily recommend VeloRoo to your friends? If so, could you please tell us why?

Jim, UK, June 2013 – I had an excellent holiday, and given the short stay it was really helpful that Veloroo were so flexible in pickup and drop-off timing; helping to organise the correct bikes in advance; recommending good cycle routes given the depth of challenge we were after; recommending good vineyards to sample and the best Saturday market to visit! – We had a brilliant 2 days and there were no problems with the tour bikes, and most importantly I feel that we didn’t waste a mile of our valuable time.. it was all perfect! Thank you

Huw, UK, June 2013 – Yes and nothing to improve!

David , UK, May 2013   –   Yes. Prompt response to enquiries. Friendly service. Knowledgeable and passionate about bikes and cycling – not just another ‘run of the mill’ tourist bike hire company with tired out, poor quality bikes. Tailored the bike to suit my requirements and size. Able to provide high quality bikes for people that want to do some ‘real’ riding. Local knowledge and recommendations for routes. Happy to deliver and collect the bike to fit in with my availability.

Andrew , UK, May 2013   –  In terms of why to recommend you. The bike was the best possible – Stuey was a dream bike: beautiful, light and fast. Your personal recommendations for routes were great. This combined with the brilliant landscape to make this an unforgettable holiday (especially for a dedicated road cyclist). The next step for me would be getting the whole family out there, kids and all, and tailoring the cycling to everyone’s abilities.

Julia and Steve,
Thanks for fitting our friends up with bikes at such short notice. We had a great ride. We stopped after about an hour and ate our bread and cheese in a vineyard beside a river then pushed on into the wind to Roquebrun for a coffee by the bridge. It’s superb cycling country, quiet roads and plenty of places to stop and get a coffee or a bite to eat. Very nice.  We will see you next time. Good luck with your venture, we appreciate it!
Thanks again              Neil and Caroline

Steve & Julia,
We had a lovely break in a great location with wonderful countryside through which we did our cycling.
I have a trusty(& rusty!) mountain bike at home and so the full carbon road bike from VeloRoo was a luxury!
I was in a group of serious cyclists all of whom had brought their own bikes and it was in at the deep end on day one with the longest cycle of the trip going some 160KM with 6,000 feet of climbing. We covered nearly 700KM in the five days with the shortest spin being 100KM. We found a beautiful route just west of Bedarieux with some magnificent scenery.
I found your service great and extremely convenient and really helpful on a bank holiday Monday morning to come to the assistance of a colleague who had developed a mechanical issue with his own bike.
Would certainly recommend your services and would definitely use you guys again if back in that area!
Have a great summer.            Mark, Ireland, May 2013
