After out brief local riding, we had to get back to the grind of work and preparation for giving our next group of friends the very best cycling holiday experience. The French Alps and Iconic Climbs were beckoning.
As stunning as the Alpine regions are, once the cover of snow has melted, the impact of their winter is revealed. The roads are never the same two years in a row. The costs of the infrastructure upkeep must be daunting. This year was no different, where a landslide on one of the major routes through the Alps has caused major disruption, and a detour for traffic that adds quite a few hours to the trips.
After confirming that all was OK with the roads to L’Alpe, we retired to our hotel in the village of Les Deux (2) Alps, the second oldest ski resort village in the French Alps.
We can’t wait to share all of this with our friends. I will try not to sing to them, but I can’t promise that. From here it is all down hill back to the cars and the stunning drive back to the hotel via Col du Glandon. What a day.
