“If you don’t climb the mountain, you can’t enjoy the view”
Pyrénées …. the mountains for Climbing Connoisseurs!
VéloRoo’s Iconic Climbs Pyrénées Challenge offers you the chance to experience a perfect blend of incredible riding and discovering the unique culture of the Haute Pyrénées and Pays Toy. A region rich with iconic TdF climbs and World Heritage listed areas of incredible natural beauty.
Our centrally located base provides easy access to the most compelling TdF climbs, Tourmalet, Aubisque and others, but also the climbs preferred by the locals. In the heart of the Haute Pyrénées you are surrounded by half a dozen towering peaks each exceeding 2,000 meters, where the dramatic majesty of the Pyrénées is always present even just wandering the historic streets or enjoying a post ride coffee.
The VéloRoo Pyrénées Challenge tours are coordinated to experience the best regional events. Because we specialise in small group sizes, our tours are able to provide a true local experience.
Our Spring Pyrénées Challenge marks the official opening of the Pyrénées in early June for the summer cycling season. Kickstarting our week of cycling amongst the many awe inspiring majestic snow capped summits, we participate in the “Montée du Géant” festival. A celebration of cycling, endeavour and history, finishing on one of cycling’s most dramatic theatres, the summit of the Col du Tourmalet. You will celebrate with the local cycling communities as you take part in the procession that returns Le Géant to his summer home atop the Tourmalet.
Our October Pyrénées Challenge coincides with the incredible Pyrénéan autumn colours.
You wont miss any of the climbs made famous by the Tour de France, nor will you be denied challenging yourselves on the climbs that are favoured by the locals. The spectacular landscape is highlighted with the incredible clarity that the autumn light delivers along with the oranges, reds and yellows of autumn colours. There is a crispness in the air that makes riding at this time of year an even more incredible experience. Autumn is a privileged time of year for riding in the Pyrénées as the tourists have all gone, and it will feel like we have the mountains to ourselves. Few riders other than the locals, but most enjoyably, very few camper vans and caravans interrupting our rides, something the summer cycling tourists don’t get to enjoy!
If we are lucky, we may even come across local shepherds moving their flock from the high pastures to the warmer valleys below!
You can be sure that after your VéloRoo Pyrénées Challenge, you will have stories and memories of a lifetime.
